is giving one lucky winner the chance to win a copy of the new album
- "This Is War."

Thirty Seconds to Mars' newest album title; This Is War, is more than
a just a reference to the band’s personal battles, a commentary on
global crises and economic turmoil and homage to their now infamous
$30,000,000 lawsuit with Virgin Records. "This Is War" also represents
the result of an 18-month creative battle, fought ferociously, but
privately, inside a studio built into the side of a house tucked away
in the Hollywood Hills. The result: a triumphant, sonically epic
game-changer that builds on the vision laid out in their 2002
self-titled debut and 2005’s multi-platinum "A Beautiful Lie."

To guide their journey, Thirty Seconds to Mars enlisted two of the
most influential producers in the world: Flood (U2, Nine Inch Nails,
Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins) and Steve Lillywhite (U2, The Rolling
Stones, Peter Gabriel).

Bleed Electric premiere their debut music video and offer insight into their three debut albums!

Hey there!

Check out the official debut music video for Altsounds.com owner
Chris "MUG5" Maguire's Bleed Electric's new video for "The Last Night
of 1989" here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WBWezII01I

http://vimeo.com/7242337

The video is taken from ONE of their THREE up and coming albums
"Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" and the video sees Bleed Electric being
time warped back to 1989. SILK, SIEGE and MUG5 are transported to
December 31st 1989 to "party like a rockstar." You see the guys
playing cosmic synths at the Bleed Electric HQ, rocking out with our
friends and even singing away inside what they interpreted as the flux
capacitor of a Black Delorean, we kid you not. Where the fuck is Doc
Brown anyway? All these crazy shenanigans and unrelenting swagger
makes for a must see music video.

Bleed Electric also announce details of their three up and coming
debut full length albums and explain some insight into what is coming
for Bleed Electric over the next couple of years. The world needs to
watch out!

All music written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Bleed
Electric

All video, art direction, production, special FX and editing by Bleed
Electric

THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS.....THEY DO IT ALL THEMSELVES!

THE BAND ARE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEWS AND EARLY DIGITAL REVIEW COPIES
OF THE SINGLE ARE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. HIT ME UP WITH REQUESTS.

Official press release below and various images included. Let me know
what you think and if you have any questions or need anything at all!
Also please send over links over any news stories that go live.

Best,

Chris

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

**Bleed Electric release video for first double A side single The
Last Night of 1989 **

**The band explain their up and coming three albums, what it entails
and what you can expect from this exciting UK based trio.**

** October 26, 2009, 08:17 PM**

What happens when Altsounds.com owner Chris "MUG5" Maguire uses the
Altsounds recording studio (Screamadelica.co.uk) down days to create
music with no constraints and that is completely genre spanning? Bleed
Electric, the Cardiff based, genre spanning Hip-Hop / Alternative /
Electro band is the result. Consisting of MUG5, SILK and SIEGE, Bleed
Electric has been working hard in the studio solidly for the past year
and although Bleed Electric started as a solo project for Chris
“MUG5” Maguire, the addition of SILK and SIEGE has changed the
entire dynamic for the better and Bleed Electric as an entity will
always need to include all three members as it is the collective of
MUG5, SILK and SIEGE that make Bleed Electric what it is today. What
has resulted, although all of which are still works in progress is not
one, not two, but three full length albums. What?! You heard me right!
Let me introduce you to the unorthodox world of Bleed Electric where
the band is responsible not only for the recording, production, mixing
and mastering of the music but also the entire video and art direction
due to having Multimedia Specialist Chris “MUG5” Maguire at the
creative helm. Everything you see or hear from Bleed Electric was done
entirely by the band to allow Bleed Electric to be depicted both
sonically and visually exactly how they see and hear it in their
heads.

The first and key album is "The Butterfly Effect" which is a concept
album depicting a movie based storyline throughout. It focuses on the
key character Andy Turner who works a dead end office job and the
storyline showcases some terrible incidents on the night of his
birthday which result in a complete landslide of his soon to be
finished life. We're talking drug taking, schizophrenia, murders,
strip clubs, cop chases, hostages, SWAT teams, love, lust, death,
suicide and everything in between above and beyond. This is not your
happy ending and Bleed Electric does not tread lightly on "The
Butterfly Effect." Far from it in fact, whilst listening you are
likely to feel uncomfortable at various points as you are transported
sonically into the scenes themselves hearing things you wish you never
had - not in a “this music is bad” way but in a “I can’t
believe the gore in that” horror movie kind of way. Due to the
artistic and adult oriented nature of "The Butterfly Effect," Bleed
Electric quickly realized that they needed some more radio friendly
tunes to help get their concept album out to the biggest audience
possible and thus the second, more radio and all ages
friendly album "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" was born. Ironically
titled after the Nirvana track of the same name from their In Utero
album, its purpose is to be the major tool to get "The Butterfly
Effect" concept album out to the masses on the back of a polar
opposite pop song. Lulling the listener in with some smooth pop vibes,
before whacking them in the face with a dose of “The Butterfly
Effect” reality!

Each of the two aforementioned albums will contain the exact same
amount of tracks. Why is that you ask? Because Bleed Electric will be
marketing the whole thing differently to everyone else too! Bleed
Electric will release each song off both albums as double A-side
singles over a period of 18 months, changing the meaning of the word
“single” and the purpose of them within the music industry. As
Bleed Electric believes in the power of music as a product each single
will contain music videos for both the "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter"
and "The Butterfly Effect" A-Sides. Each "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter"
video will be real music videos whereas each "The Butterfly Effect"
video will be much more like a movie with some small performances and
subtitled dialogue. Whilst we are on that topic, the A-Sides released
from "The Butterfly Effect" will be released in a non chronological
order so that the story is never completely revealed until the CD /
DVD album combo is released at the end of it all. Every song on "The
Butterfly Effect" will be released with roman numerals depicting its
place in the story and when combined together the concept album will
be revealed in movie form finishing off the story for everyone! Kind
of like collecting cards, you will want to collect all of the videos
and songs so you can start listening to the story running into one
another.

The first example of this is the first double A-Side single that will
be released on Altsounds Records in January 2010 which features ‘The
Last Night of 1989,’ a song that sees SILK, SIEGE and MUG5 being
transported to December 31st 1989 to "party like a rockstar." You see
the guys playing cosmic synths in the Bleed Electric HQ, rocking out
with our friends and even performing inside the flux capacitor of a
Black Delorean, we kid you not. Where the fuck is Doc Brown anyway?

All this crazy shit and unrelenting swagger makes for a must see
music video in "The Last Night of 1989." ‘The Last Night of 1989’
is an 80s inspired electro hip-pop track whilst it's polar opposite,
double A-Side from "The Butterfly Effect," 'XII. Special Weapons and
Tactics' is a song that mixes Death Metal and Hip-Hop and discusses
the situation of the main character Andy Turner who is stuck in a
Motel room with four hostages while the SWAT team get in their
positions to "take out" the perp. It's an action packed introduction
to "The Butterfly Effect" and will get you wondering what happened
before and what will happen next. This single will also feature two
remixes but again breaking the mould, Bleed Electric won't be
including remixes of the single tracks but will be releasing two
remixes on each single that showcase other up and coming singles
making each of them so packed to capacity that it is almost bursting.
Bleed Electric believes in artwork, video / film and music as a
package and thinks that the digital world is slightly ruining all of
this and they are trying to retain and introduce this quality of
product and workmanship in the digital realm.

So WTF is the third album you mentioned then? Well, Bleed Electric
love collaborations and their third album "It's a Brand Name" is
basically a remix double album from all of their favourite underground
remix artists. Some they found through listening to the remix artists
other remixes or original work, others were found through remix
contests and "It's a Brand Name" is a collection of other people's
interpretations of Bleed Electric songs. Phew. LESSON OVER! There was
just so much that needed to be said to explain the whole idea behind
Bleed Electric, their up and coming albums and what they have been
(and are) doing here. So now you know the score, what is this video we
were talking about?

Well, in preparation for Bleed Electric's debut single 'The Last
Night of 1989 / XII. Special Weapons and Tactics' released in January
2010 on Altsounds Records. Bleed Electric and Altsounds.com have just
released the debut video for 'The Last Night of 1989' which as
previously mentioned was HD filmed, directed, edited, special effected
and everything else by Bleed Electric over four days. The video cost
just £150 pounds to make and shows the band taking their careers into
their own hands. Consisting of 40 dancers, DJ Raheem from KISS’
scratch tactics, an airport, green screen action from the virtual
Bleed Electric HQ, the inside of what they a black Delorean's flux
capacitor would look like, to space and back this video is a thrilling
hip-pop ride from start to finish.

Watch 'The Last Night of 1989' Video right now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WBWezII01I

http://vimeo.com/7242337

The 'XII. Special Weapons and Tactics' video will be shot at the end
of this month (October 2009) and if all goes to plan you will see a
Post Apocalyptic Bleed Electric rocking out with the Seven Piece Metal
band Kryophere, Burlesque dancers, fire breathers, SWAT teams, blood,
brutality, beatings, pit bulls, hostages and "The Butterfly Effect"
movie cut scene footage which will make for a complete opposite for
what is on display in ‘The Last Night of 1989’ music video.

It is the hope of Bleed Electric that judgements will be made by
critics and music listeners that they either love or hate Bleed
Electric based on 'The Last Night of 1989' and its associated video
just to be hit sideways by 'XII. Special Weapons and Tactics.' Being
left wondering WTF just happened to them and turning the initial
lovers into haters and/or vice versa. Bleed Electric will always keep
you on your toes and will not be defined by a genre although one thing
that always remains is that no matter what genre Bleed Electric work
with the unmistakeable and original Bleed Electric sound is retained
meaning that once you are a fan of Bleed Electric you will always be a
fan at the same time expanding your musical horizons.

The next two years will see a great journey for Bleed Electric so
keep your eyes and ears peeled here for all the latest Bleed Electric
updates. And always remember that you heard and saw it here first!

Tomorrow Night::Gettin' up there with JANUS

Hello again,

Just wanted to take a minute to remind all of you that we have a great show coming up Friday night at The Rock Nightclub in Maplewood, Minnesota. It is a great show not only because we love playing The Rock but also because we are playing with the band Janus, an up and coming band from Chicago that will absolutely blow your mind!!!!!  Even though many of you may be unfamiliar with the band as of now, click here for a taste, that will not be the case as the days and months progress. Their new Album Red Right Return is amazing and is sure to spawn a couple of hit singles.

DO NOT miss out, this is a unique opportunity to experience a highly original national band that is BLOWING UP THE NATIONAL SCENE!!! You can request their single "Eyesore" on 93x. Don't be shy. The best thing about this show is the cost. Only $6. Next time they come through town they will undoubtedly be significantly more expensive. Did I not mention the lineup in support? Well that is not to be missed as well, of course your good friends in a band called Drift Effect will be playing as direct support. Also included on the bill is our comrades in East 18 from Iowa and Between Two Skies.

DO. NOT. BE. THE. ONE. TO. MISS. THIS. SHOW.

See you tomorrow!!!

DE on Flickr!

We thought to ourselves, who doesn't have a smartphone? Or digital camera that they bring EVERYWHERE? We joined Flickr so we can give you visually stimulating, artistic and emotionally traumatic pictures from shows and other happenings, like Marc surfing on the van, or Adam doing sweet ninja moves while Nate settles into the lock-solid defensive Turtle position.

If you're already on Flickr - find yourself at a show taking pictures of us doing such shenanigans (or playing on stage, yeah, we do that too), tag us, add us as a contact/friend, all that cool stuff. We'll be doing the same!

Marc and Ben @ Mall of America!

Quick heads up...Marc and Ben will be at the FYE store at the Mall of America with passes to the Live, Loud and Local Festival this weekend. They've been available at www.drifteffect.com but we know some folks are hesitant about buying things online. We wanted to give you the opportunity to buy a pass face-to-face...just like old times! So they'll be at FYE between 6:30pm and 8:00pm TONIGHT!

If you can make it there to grab a $10 pass, awesome. You'll be able to get in the whole weekend. If you can't make it, you can still get in Friday, August 28 for DE for $10 but it will just be for the one night. If that's cool, then cool!

Again, just a heads up. See you in a little bit or at the show on Friday!

Live, Loud and Local Festival!!

So a week from today we're playing at the Rock Nightclub in Maplewood, MN for the Live, Loud and Local Festival. This is going to be a rediculously awesome show! Be a part of it! Jam Solid Productions booked 65 bands over three days.

Needless to say, holy ball sack.

Anyhow, we have advance tickets available on our site. Now this is cool. Let's say you want to come check out your favorite DE dudes. Awesome! $10, please.

But why stop there when you can come and go as you please over those three days with a 3-Day Pass from our site for that $10?

Sure it's only $10 to go for one night but at the venue it'll be $15 for that same 3-Day Pass. Why not get yourself in for all three days for the same price as one night then when you find yourself bored on Saturday...head back out to the Rock and don't pay a dime!

Yes, we really want you all there to experience the glare of all this awesomeness...

We're gonna hit the stage on Friday, August 28 at 10pm right before New Medicine (formerly A Verse Unsung)

If you're in some other zip code or country, or just don't know DE or these bands well enough yet, you can always follow @DriftEffect on Twitter for EXCLUSIVE updates from the show. We're not gonna be telling ya'll what's going on anywhere else so keep up with us there!

Check out the event invites on MySpace and Facebook for more info and SHARE THE CRAP OUT OF THEM! This is only gonna be as cool as you all make it!!!

Cadillac Records

Saw it already (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1042877/)...whole new respect for Beyonce (http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/home). She was an executive producer on it too. I watch those kinds of movies and feel nostalgic. It's amazing how the history side of things is expressed so purely in the music. I love how Chuck Berry (http://www.chuckberry.com/)started snappin' about the Beach Boys, Elvis...people never seem to understand when I say fuck those white dudes. Rolling Stones are a bit different because they were uber fans. Elvis was a created gimmick. And moved on to the next gimmick when he got old and fat. And he's the king of rock and roll...and how the flick touches on the racial tensions of Adrien Brody (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004778/) giving "handouts" or saving his artists from all their fuckups. Like whitey thinking he's this non-racist savior helping the poor ignorant negroes who don't have the capacity to handle the consequences of their own actions. I think that's part of Little Walter's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Walter) demise but Howlin' Wolf (http://www.howlinwolf.com/), from the get-go, wanted no part in that cycle and was successful. (*read Cornell West's "Race Matters"(http://books.google.com/books?id=p89c2eTJgJgC&dq=cornel+west+race+matters&printsec=frontcover&source=bn&hl=en&ei=si2IStJcjYYx86qI3As&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4#v=onepage&q=&f=false)) The movie touches on perspectives that other movies like that miss...but, again, it's amazing how a fan of that music and those artists is hooked for life because it is nostalgic for them even though they've never experienced it. Yeah, LOVED that flick.

P.S. Etta James (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etta_James) was PISSED that Beyonce sang At Last for Obama at one of the inaugural balls on the 4th (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1604348/20090205/knowles_beyonce.jhtml). From watching Beyonce play her, you can understand how Etta James really is (to Beyonce's credit) and believe that she would be pissed. Just because she's kind of pissed off in general. No reason to be mad but just IS mad. You know?

Clapton and Winwood

So it was my birthday on June 17 and as a gift my sister and some other family and friends pooled money together to send Nate and I to see Eric Clapton and Stevie Winwood at the X the night after. I should have talked about this earlier, but I just bought the DVD of the concert at Madison Square Gardens and I'm fired up all over again! If this isn't the best concert I've seen, it's definitely in the Top 3. I've seen the Who, Clapton two other times and a slew of other modern rock acts and lower profile blues players. But this show...

It was all Winwood. I could listen to this man sing for days. There's a subtle power in his voice but it has an easy timbre to it as well. And if any of you are thinking that Winwood is some kind of pansy or that I'm sellin' out somehow for saying this, you haven't heard him belt out Jimi's Voodoo Chile. Not this Slight Return, pop bullshit. I'm talkin' about 12 minutes of Jimi magic on Electric Ladyland that Winwood actually played keys on back in the day. Seriously, I'm talkin' goosebumps on my taint!

Everyone knows Clapton can play. He's old and has rehashed things to a point where it's tricky for him to get into it right away. But when he focuses and sets his mind to blowing yours, he does it in a way that you couldn't anticipate unless you're on a similar par in your art or craft.

The Madison Square Gardens concert was their first of the tour and I can tell you that they were MUCH better in St. Paul. This was simply a warm up...getting comforable with each other.

My take on this is simple though I would love to make it sound more insightful and profound. There is a mastery that we in a younger generation are still privileged to witness. Not only a mastery, but a compound of excellence and wisdom and age that can't be substituted. It's something universal that only genius can convey through different age groups and backgrounds. Those words do it no justice...which is why people have their arts. But this was the nature of the music Nate and I witnessed at the X and you can catch a glimpse of on the Madison Square Gardens DVD.

Check it out...don't check it out. Whatever. I just can't contain myself.

Musings

It has been an interesting few weeks. I read, "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. It is set in a dark and dismal world. A place destroyed by what the reader assumes is nuclear war. The story focuses on a boy and his father trying to merely survive in a brutal world; a place and time where cannabilism is rampant as food sources are beyond scarce. The sole
act of grace the father bestows upon his child is a gun with one bullet, as if the greatest gift he can give his child is the chance to escape this terrible existence. There are no creature comforts in this world, only the will to live...but for what? The earth is dead. The grounds will not produce crops. The oceans are acidic.

So, what do they have to look forward to? What kind of quality of life will his child inherit? This is all there is. Nihilism. At the very core of human existence is the basic law of nature. The parent bestows all the wisdom to their offspring, so that the offspring has a chance at survival. There is no point to human existence but that basic law, and when all the pretense of modern life are stripped away...no more creature comforts...you are faced with the inevitable conclusion that you live and then you die. That is it. Religion and politics
serve no purpose in the scheme of things...

While at the same time, I have been listening to the Dave Matthews Band. Their new CD is called
"Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King." This is as we know an excercise in dealing with the death of a close friend. Whereas McCarthy would say that this life is it. Dave Matthews turns to religious themes to cope. Throughout the album, the listener can hear religious connotations delivered in earnest by Dave Matthews. He chooses to focus on what is important in his estimation: faith, family, and friends...a common rationale when faced
with mortality. It is obvious to me that Matthews spent hours pouring over his emotions. He took the time to craft the lyrics to capture these emotions, and this is by far the most intense and best written album of his career.

On top of all of this, I have spent a great deal of time talking with one of my closest friends. He has a PHD in Psychology, and is an expert in the field. He gave me many things to think about, which I need to share. The first is the idea of collective unconcious. He equated it to the same mechanism that makes geese migrate south for the winter, or the same mechanism that send millions of green turtles into the ocean at precisely the same time after they are born. What
I call Soul, he calls collective unconcious. Some ancient code embedded into our DNA that gives our species the best possible chance to survive.

He feels incredible peace of mind knowing that this is all there is. He believes that it is impossible for the human mind to comprehend infinity. The universe is never ending, time is
never ending and it is therefore impossible for humans to comprehend that once they die that is it. They won't know they are dead as they will no longer be conscious. Likewise, it is very difficult to accept the death of those we share our lives with. The only way humans have been able to cope with this is to make up fantastical tales. "They are not gone, they are in heaven"

Where do I stand on all of this...I don't know. I want to believe in some force controlling my fate. I want to find peace. I guess in the end it doesn't matter. You live and you die. In the middle, you try and contribute to humanity. You surround yourself with like minded people and experience life. When it is your time, you hope that you can look back and be at peace with all that you have done. You can't concern yourself with what happens next.

-Ray

Trocaderos Closed!

Bummer...Trocaderos has closed. We've had great experiences there and have always appreciated the excellent treatment the staff, promoters and sound technicians have given us and everyone else who've played there and walked through those doors.

Appreciation

As we make our trek back to MSP, we wanted to take the time to pen our appreciation for the support and reception we had on these two shows with Evans Blue and Rains. The two bands embraced us as comrades and fans took the time out of their busy lives to break away and rock out for a night (or maybe two: Chels, Van, Big Ben). We worked very hard to promote Evans Blue to give them a warm welcome in Minneapolis but it was all of you that came through and provided that support by coming out. We ALL enjoyed these nights away from the dredge of the day-to-days and let our hair down. It was amazing to share those nights with you, fans, and humbling that you'd support us. Thank you! We'll see you again soon.

On Our Way Home...

All I got to say is wow.... Who makes a little person a bathroom attendant??? Between the halo of blacklight, the dual showered stage, the plethera of bring your own booze, random guys cooking kabobs, and a dance off that would blow your mind (which by the way, Big Ben blew Evans Blue out of the competition with a standing perkilator) it was a decent night.... Guess you had to be there! See you soon!
