White Lies at HMV Institute Birmingham
14th February 2011 | 80%
If I had to compare White Lies with anything, it would have to be the German national football team. Never emphatic and always solid, you know exactly what to expect, and you know that the fans will invariably be left feeling happy at the end of 90 minutes.

It might seem harsh to relegate this as background music as if to say it doesn’t require close attention but, Feeling Today works better when it creeps up on you in unexpected ways and slowly feeds in and out of your conscious mind.

Memphis Industries | 80%
It contains the right amount of strings to make it tropical friendly (also some rattles helped with that mood too) and a pinch of very mild, chill out drums that will put your mind right in a hammock between the palm trees on a desert island.

Timo Tolkki - Saana Warriror of Light Part 1
Scarlet Records | 90%
Timo Tolkki is probably best known as the guitarist, song writer and producer of the Finnish power metal band Stratovarius. His style started out as very darkly progressive and gradually has become more accessible.

The summer of 2010 found The Sounds featured at over 25 European music festivals! In the Foo Fighters’ 2003 video for “Times Like These,” frontman Dave Grohl was filmed wearing a The Sounds tee shirt. First single or not, the band clearly has an established platform on which to stand.

Virtual Boy explore the emotions well to create an EP that is truly breathtaking. It takes a while for their innovative ideas to catch on but when they do there are few artists that come close to their unique sound. It's just a shame that some people will likely write this off after just one listen.

Maybe it’s the fact that the previous performers are still alive and kicking. Perhaps it’s the old adage ‘die before I get old’ excuse is the reason this lead singer was chosen. This man’s prowess on-stage outclasses any single performer, his range is unparalleled and if it wasn’t his untimely death it is a very real possibility that he may still be performing with the third greatest rock group of all time.
